A NEED FOR COLOUR

So my foray into weaving was pleasant albeit a little short. The process was relaxing and enjoyable but if I try and analyse my thoughts on the craft I think I felt a little too constrained and definitely lacking in spontaneity. I am sure I will revisit the the warp and the weft again but I really have missed stitching both by hand and machine.

So, feeling an almost desperate need for colour in my life I have been playing with paints, pastels, chalks, inks, painted papers and collage; basically anything and everything from my cupboard of left over City and Guilds days. So much fun and exceedingly messy, no rules and definitely not a colour wheel in sight! The more the colours clash and react to one another the happier it makes me. In a short space of time I have amassed a reasonable collection of finished pieces; some of which I have begun to add some stitch with the machine and by hand. The next step is to experiment with different papers and fabric bases to find the best combination for some free machine stitching.

Work in progress and I have just noticed that I left the needle showing, whoops!

I had a few pages that were not very pleasing to me so I have cut them into smaller pieces to use as inspiration for colour schemes.

At home in the garden spring flowers and bulbs are bursting into bloom. The new Hellebores I bought last year flowered for the first time and did not disappoint. Now I will just wait patiently for the seeds to set and eventually germinate; who knows what little treasures may be waiting.

Walking in the woods with Jackson of late has been extremely wet and muddy but oh so very, very inspiring. The bluebells are growing fast and already the floor is becoming a sea of lush green foliage. On some of the least sodden paths little pockets of violets, anemones and emerging primroses are doing their best to flower; perfect colour pallets for the taking. It looks to be brighter and hopefully not as wet next week so I will have my camera at the ready when the sun shines.
