Perfect Pewter
- stitching with this fabulous metal

Pewter is one of my favourite mediums to work with. Modern pewter does not contain lead but is still a very beautiful material. If I am working on a piece for myself I prefer to use metal containing lead as it is much denser and stitches wonderfully. If it is a piece for sale I am mindful of the dangers and use the highest quality pewter that is completely safe for handling.

The sewing machine loves to stitch on pewter but the highly polished surface does not enjoy the stitching process.  Simple free machine granite stitch creates depth, contrast and a brilliantly textured surface.  Of late I have found myself wanting to work on a larger scale and to highlight the contrast between the stitched and the clean metal surface.  How to devise a way of stitching without marking the beautiful surface of the metal sheet?  It’s a good job that I do love a challenge!!

About Me

As a textile artist I find great satisfaction in continually pushing the boundaries of machine embroidery. I enjoy working in 2d and 3d with layered effects. I work with a diverse range of materials and dye my own fabrics, threads and papers. I like to work in an experimental and innovative way and continually challenge myself to consider and explore new materials and their potential.
